The LAK-9 first became known when it appeared at the 1976 World Gliding Championships held in Finland.
The type name 'Lietuva' is the Russian for Lithuania.
The 'M' variant was a modernised version which was built from the fourth batch onwards.
This example is on display suspended in the original display hangar of the Russian Air Force Museum.
